Whoopi Goldberg Suspended Over Holocaust Controversy
Whoopi Goldberg has been suspended from “The View” for two weeks after making controversial remarks about the Holocaust.
On the Monday, 31 January edition of the talk show, Goldberg argued that the Holocaust was “not about race”, referred to the Jewish people and the Nazis as “two groups of white people”, and claimed that the Holocaust was about “man’s inhumanity to man.”
Her remarks were prompted after a Tennessee school board recently removed “Maus” – a graphic novel about the atrocity that saw six million Jewish people killed during World War II – from its curriculum.
Despite issuing an apology the following day after intense backlash, the 66-year-old actress was immediately suspended by ABC, the television network that produces “The View”.
“While Whoopi has apologised, I’ve asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments,” explained ABC President Kim Goodwin. “The entire ABC News organisation stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family and communities.”
Needless to say, it will be interesting to see how “The View” addresses Goldberg’s suspension in their next broadcast.
